Introduction to Islamic Finance

This course introduces users to the basic concepts, principles and practices of Islamic Banking and Finance in an informative and appealing format. Once the students have successfully completed the course, they will possess a clear grasp on the subject matter. In this lesson the fundamental principles of Islamic Economics and Islamic Finance are introduced. It also analyzes the evolution, growth and development of the industry across various periods of time.

About Instructor

Imad Ali

Mohammed Imad Ali has been associated with Islamic banking and finance industry for almost 20 years, acquiring very rare mix of knowledge and experience of heading controlled function and later heading Islamic business of a global bank. Imad work on different areas related to Islamic banking and finance. He has worked with multiple teams in different geographies, like USA, UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, GCC and Africa. He has worked on developing the Islamic private banking products, structured solutions, derivatives, Sukuk, treasury and retail propositions. Imad worked with Citi Islamic Investment Bank (CIIB, a locally incorporated subsidiary of Citigroup Inc., based in Bahrain) for thirteen years, of which nine years as Shari’ah Control Officer and the past four years as CEO and Executive Director on CIIB Board. Earlier Imad worked with HSBC Amanah (an Islamic brand of HSBC) in Dubai and prior to that Imad worked with Dentons (an English law firm in Dubai) with their Islamic Finance team. Imad has obtained his masters in comparative laws and his Ph.D. in Islamic Banking and finance from International Islamic University Malaysia. Imad has read law and has been admitted as a lawyer in India.
